Digital angiography:
Angiography is an examination of the vessels of the arteries (arteriography)
or of the veins (phlebography) with the aim of diagnosing and/or
operating. The technique consists of making the veins opaque by
injecting, under local anaesthetic or sedation, a contrast medium.
Angiography allows the exploratory investigation of the vessels
(narrowing, blockage, dilation, irregularity) as well as hypervascularized
tumours.
It also offers the possibility of performing small surgical operations,
such as: the disolving of clots in the arteries (fibrinolysis),
dilation of the ateries (transluminal angioplasty), putting in implant
to keep the artery open (stent), embolization to stop a serious
internal haemorrage or to block a tumourous vessel with the injection
of special products (these products can be combined with drugs,
this is chemoembolization).
